“Wearing leather on your skin for a long time can cause skin irritations”

Pain can be a fun part of any BDSM relationship, but that does not mean you want to feel pain seriously. After all, you would not want to go play in poison ivy just to feel the pain of the rash. This is why you might want to think about some of the decisions you are making with your partner. If you are using leather on a regular basis, it can be a real problem for you. This is because when you have leather against your skin all the time, it can cause a lot of pain through skin irritation and could even cause you to have an aversion to leather. This is when you might want to give the leather a break for a little while or change the way you are using leather.

How Long to Take a Break

If you have noticed skin irritation anywhere on your body from the leather you are using, you might want to take a break. Generally, you should take a break for as long as you need to in order for any rash or redness to go away. If you are not feeling any pain right now from the leather, but you see redness on your skin, it is probably just that you are wearing the leather too tight. Just let the skin breathe occasionally. Try to use leather for a few hours and then take it off. This will help to prevent the skin from getting irritated from sweat getting stuck between the leather and your skin and causing irritation.

Changing the Way You Use Leather

“Use other alternatives instead of leather belts”

If you are going to use leather a lot, you might consider purchasing leather with a buffer in between the leather and your skin. This can include some cloth to absorb the sweat from your skin so you can wear the leather longer. No matter what kind of leather you use, you should also make sure you are cleaning and sanitizing the leather on a regular basis. You do not want for any germs to grow on the leather. This can cause something more than skin irritation. It could actually cause you to get sick and for your skin to be in extreme pain.

Alternating Leather Usage

One great way to make sure you are maintaining healthy skin and minimizing pain is to make sure you are alternating how you are using leather. You can use a choker one day and a chest harness the next time. By changing up which parts of your body you are wearing leather and how it is being worn, you will be able to protect yourself from being hurt. You can also change between using leather to tie down and ropes or sashes. This will still provide you with the kind of effect you are going for, but will remove the leather aspect from your world, if only for long enough to give your skin a little breathing room so you can enjoy leather again.
